FUNDRAISING AT REEDHAM

RECENT FUNDRAISING EVENTS

Trinity School Swimathon 12 June 2010

The Trust were delighted to be chosen as recipients of the funds raised by a Swimathon at Trinity Sports Club, Shirley Park, Croydon on 12 June.  We received the sum of £1,770 which was raised from this event – a really excellent total.

The Trust sincerely thanks all those at Trinity Sports Club who were involved with the organisation of the Swimathon, the sponsors of the swimmers for their generosity, and of course the swimmers themselves who worked so hard to raise this amazing sum.

Purley Rotary Club Swimathon 6 February 2010

The Trust once again entered two teams of sponsored swimmers in the Purley Rotary Club Charity Swimathon at Purley Pool on the evening of Saturday 6 February 2010. The challenge was for the teams to complete as many lengths of the pool as possible in the allotted time of 55 minutes.

Reedham Team 1 consisted of swimmers Andrew Tubb, Carol Tubb, Amy Tubb, Elizabeth Frost, Chloe Wall, Matthew Wall, Leah Hidden and Paul Abreu. They swam 126 lengths in 55 minutes. Well done to all of them!

Swimming in Reedham Team 2 were Richard Knight, Matthew Knight, Louisa Knight, Henry Stanley, George Stanley, Chris Ackerley and Rob Ackerley. This team - consisting of mainly youthful swimmers - managed a very creditable 166 lengths.  A really great effort.

We do thank our swimmers for all their hard work on the night, and sincerely thank all those kind enough to sponsor them – and also those who came along to Purley Pool to cheer them on.

It takes some time for all the sponsorship monies to be collected together and forwarded to the Rotary Club for distribution, but the amount raised for the Reedham Trust from the 2010 Swimathon will be reported here as soon as possible.

Christmas Collections 2009

The Trust once again took part in the annual Christmas Collections organised by the Purley Rotary Club.  Our thanks go to our band of collectors who collected outside Tesco in Purley on Friday 4 December.

We are also grateful to those who gave up their time on the evening of Monday 14 December to assist Father Christmas with his collection along Old Lodge Lane, Purley and the surrounding area.

The amount raised for Reedham from these collections was £550 and the Trust is very grateful to the Purley Rotary Club for allowing us to benefit from their Christmas Collections in 2009.

PREVIOUS FUNDRAISING AT THE TRUST

May Ball 2009 at Alnwick Castle

A grand May Ball organised by the Trust’s benefactors in the North East of England took place on the 15 May 2009 in the Guest Hall of beautiful Alnwick Castle, Northumberland.  The entire evening was fully sponsored so all funds raised will be used to assist children in need in the North East.

Attending the Ball on behalf of Reedham were Trust staff members Jean Watkins and Jane Pocock and their partners, together with Reedham Trustees Richard Link and Douglas Reed.  Representing the Reedham Old Scholars' Association were George & Denise Kanetti and Maureen & John Jones.

They were treated to a champagne and canapés while a jazz band played. The tables in the Great Hall were decked with balloons in the Reedham colours of red and yellow.  The guests then sat down to an excellent dinner (rack of lamb with a port and berry sauce, pavlova with vanilla cream and strawberries and Northumbrian fudge to finish). After dinner the fun really started with the auction. A DJ from Metro Radio was the Master of Ceremonies.

Up for bid was an original painting by a renowned local artist, Alexander Millar and this went for £26,000!  Also auctioned were a Newcastle United Match Day Experience, a helicopter flight, his and hers bicycles and a Farne Islands cruise for a party of 12. A raffle followed with prizes ranging from bottles of champagne to John Lewis vouchers and a local organic lamb prepared for the freezer.  The evening was rounded off by dancing to a band who covered every hit from the 60s to Amy Winehouse.

The evening was a resounding success and raised over £57,000 to help disadvantaged, vulnerable children in the North East. We thank the organisers from the bottom of our hearts for their hard work and support.

The Reedham Trust Golf Day 2008

The Trust held a very successful Golf Day on 26 June 2008 at Croham Hurst Golf Club, South Croydon and we are delighted that over £4,700 was raised at this event for Trust funds.

12 Teams of 3 took part in an afternoon Stableford Competition, followed by Dinner and Prizegiving and we were delighted that the Mayor of Croydon, Cllr Jonathan Driver, was able to attend the Dinner to present the prizes.

Our thanks go to all the competitors for their support of this event and our congratulations to all our prizewinners, particularly the Winning Team “The Fruity Boys”, the Individual Highest Scorer, Tali Atvars, and special congratulations to Brian Walters of the BWCF 4 Team, who during his round achieved a lifetime ambition of a hole in one.

The Trust would also like to thank The Eversley Trust, The Sandra Charitable Trust, The Helen Robertson Charitable Trust, Schroders and Rensburg Sheppards for their generous sponsorship of the event.
